Warning for the Turkish Students:

1) Turkish students can not register at the university without valid OSYM points and related documents. If they have registered by mistake or they cause student officer to make a mistake, this registration will be cancelled according to the senate decision.

2) Turkish students themselves are responsible correctly registrating, not the student office personnal.
Course Descriptors (Learning Goals)


The students, placed into the Faculties have the opportunity to formally declare themselves after the one-year common program. Delayed declaration enables more informed and mature career decisions. Within the Basic Year Program the offered university courses assist students in acquiring interdisciplinary thinking skills and a holistic knowledge base as well as discipline-specific content. This will enable the students to become more familiar with the programs offered, which will assist them in their choice of field at the end of the first study year.

Educational Aims

The aims of the basic year Program are:
"to provide students with innovative perspectives of the world, their country, their society, and themselves.
"to equip students with fundamental knowledge as well as with the tools of independent and critical thinking.
"to facilitate an informed and mature decision making process for the choice of the career field.

Learning Outcomes

After completing the first study year, the students will be able to:

"Gain an ability to develop and apply their English Professional Language.

"Increase knowledge which will help students for better understanding the current situations and to predict the future. Students will be able to understand other people which have different culture, different traditions and different behaviors. 

"Understand the theoretical foundation of communication skills, gain understanding and knowledge of different communication skills, understand and evaluate their own communication capacity and behavior, increase their ability to improve and utilize their communication skills in order to become a effective and competent communicator.

"Use computer-based technologies to manipulate, create, store and retrieve information to express ideas and communicate with others.

"Gather data, systematically identify problems, generate superior alternatives, choose and implement the best solution, evaluate what you learn, and use that knowledge to create even better outcomes.

"Understand economic issues and theoretical concepts in a business context.

"Develop and demonstrate their understanding and skillful use of the design elements, understand basic design principles and apply them to their work.

"Gain an ability to develop their mathematical skills and concepts, and to apply them to ideas that are important in the engineering, management, life, and social sciences.

"Gain an ability to understand how to distinguish between theory, hypotheses, laws, phenomena, models, and physical systems


Assessment Strategy

Assessment is, in the majority of courses, via tutor-marked assignments, set at intervals through the course, together with an end-of-course examination. Some courses have an end-of-course project or special assignment instead of an examination.
Warning for the First Year Students

When a student fails a course taken for the first time, he/she is obliged to retake this course and re-attend course lectures.

Without retaking the failed course and re-attending course lectures, the student cannot take the final exam, make-up1 and/or make-up 2 exams of this course.

If a student fails a course twice (two years), he/she is not obliged to re-attend the course lectures. In such cases, the student is allowed to take directly final exams, make-up1 and/or make-up2 exams of the failed course.
