Information technology is a very versatile field. Therefore, the program gives graduates a wide range of distinguished career opportunities.

Information Technology graduates are sought after by almost all kinds of industries including gas and oil, telecommunications, media, security, medicine, and many others within our country, the region, and beyond. Examples of job titles for this stream include Software Engineer, System Administrator, Application Developer, Systems Programmer, System Analyst, IT Security Specialist, Network Administrator, Database Administrator, IT Consultant, Multimedia Specialist and Web System Manager.

Description

The Information Technology programme offered by the Faculty of Technical Sciences at IBU is designed to teach students to understand the fundamental information technology concepts. The students will have an opportunity to learn about the current themes and directions of information technology in the IT core.

Students can select elective courses which will give them to spread their knowledge in sub-disciplines of the field.

The program allows graduates to face new challenges as innovators and problem solvers and enable them to contribute effectively and professionally to society as individuals or team members through effective communication and interactive skills.

Educational aims

This flexibly structured degree has the following overall aims:

to provide a student with up-to-date, contextualised
  knowledge of important concepts and trends in
  information technology and computing;

to enable students to apply their knowledge and
  understanding appropriately in such activities as
  analysis, abstraction, problem solving, design and
  testing;

-
to prepare students for professional work in the
  fields of information technology and computing by
  equipping them with appropriate skills.

Assessment strategy

Assessment is, in the majority of courses, via tutor-marked assignments, set at intervals through the course, together with an end-of-course examination. Some courses have an end-of-course project or special assignment instead of an examination.
