A CAREER BRIDGE FROM EUROPE TO FUTURE
1.English Language Preparatory Program (ELPP) 2011-2012 starts on 12 September 2011 and finishes on 3 September 2012.

2.ELPP is organized in two separate semesters and a Summer Support Course (SSC):

3.All the students attending the ELPP should have their status at IBU regulated at the beginning of the I semester and they should have been issued an Index Book.

4.The students attending the ELLP throughout the semesters should come to classes regularly and have a minimum of 80% attendance i.e. 750 hours out of 936 classes in total. If students start to show low attendance rate, teachers are obliged to give them oral warning and advice for their future behavior. If students do not show any improvement, they will be issued a written notice and send to higher authorities for further counseling.

5.Requirements and assignments (listed below) are needed as a pre-condition to enter Proficiency Exam-1 (PE1). If students do not meet these criteria they will not be allowed to enter PE1 and will be advised to attend SSC in order to enter proficiency Exam-2 (PE2) (conditions for Summer Support Course (SSC) are explained in item 10).

Requirements and assignments: - 50% needed; "4 quizzes two in the I semester; two in the II second semester; "Midterm Exam at the end of the I semester; - 30 Graded Readers (novels) (15 in each of the semesters), There is a Graded Readers quiz for each book every Monday*; - Continuous assessment (homework, class participation, motivation).

*Why graded readers? The extensive reading program was established at ELPP in 2010-2011 and it was proved to be very beneficial in terms of language and skills development for the students.  It can enhance learners  general language competence. That means that there is a spread of effect from reading skill to other language skills - writing, speaking and syntax.  It can increase knowledge of vocabulary, word recognition and decoding o symbols . It can motivate learners to read, to use the libraries regularly and develop reading habits. It can reinforce and recombine previously learned language in the classroom. It helps to build confidence with extended/ longer texts. Students in ELPP need reading for academic purposes, and therefore need training in study skills and strategies for reading longer texts and books. Finally, it facilitates the development of prediction skills. Background knowledge is a platform for readers to predict the content of a text on the basis of pre-existing patterns. When students read, these patterns are activated and help the reader to decode and interpret the message beyond the printed words.
