Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sezen Ismail from the Faculty of Education at International Balkan University (IBU) had the honor of participating in the prestigious Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) program—an intensive, five- to six-week academic exchange initiative. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, SUSI is one of the highly competitive grants awarded globally, bringing together scholars from around the world to explore key themes in U.S. studies through academic residencies, field experiences, leadership development, and community engagement.
Dr. Ismail attended the SUSI Institute for Global Scholars on Contemporary American Literature, hosted by the Mansfield Center at the University of Montana. The program offered a close look into the works of influential contemporary American writers, examining how their narratives reflect and shape broader societal currents. Through seminars, cultural immersion, and dialogue with American peers, participants gained valuable insights into the evolving landscape of American literature and its intersection with identity, politics, and culture.
This exchange has elevated IBU's global profile by creating opportunities for further academic collaboration and enriched our literary perspective through international dialogue.
