The International Balkan University (IBU) community today concluded a profoundly moving and impactful solidarity meeting, demonstrating a unified, powerful front against the widespread persecution and catastrophic humanitarian crisis confronting the Palestinian people. The event was marked by the huge participation of our students, staff, and academic body, reflecting an institutional commitment that runs deep within the IBU family for global justice and human rights.
Leadership and Community Speak Out
Our institution’s leadership articulated a firm stance on this tragedy. Rector Prof. Dr. Lütfi Sunar delivered a passionate address, speaking directly to the harsh realities of the current war and persecution. He underscored the profound moral responsibility we bear, not just as academics, but as human beings, to support our brothers and sisters in Palestine. Rector Sunar detailed what concrete actions we, as a global community, can and must take to alleviate the suffering and stand in defiance of injustice.
This resolute position was strongly reinforced by Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Lökçe, who echoed the urgency of the matter. Vice-Rector Lökçe emphasized our unwavering support for the victims of this immense tragedy and reinforced the need for immediate, tangible action to provide relief and uphold the dignity of the Palestinian people.
Further cementing the institution's commitment, speeches were delivered by the Student Assembly members and Deans, all of whom added their voices to the call for immediate intervention. Their participation highlighted the consensus across all levels of the university—from administration to the student body—that silence in the face of such a crisis is unacceptable.
A Call for Justice and Humanitarian Action
We firmly assert that the unfolding situation in the region transcends mere political debate; it represents a profound moral emergency. The sheer scale of the human tragedy, characterized by systematic suffering and the irreversible loss of innocent lives, demands our active engagement.
Our meeting was conceived as a clear call to tangible action. Through the collective voice of our academic community, we articulate an unconditional demand for an end to the crisis. We are moving beyond dialogue to decisive steps, including dedicated efforts to mobilize resources for material aid. This unified stance reflects our belief that global solidarity is the most potent response to global injustice.
The message from the IBU community is unequivocal: We demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire and the unconditional, unhindered delivery of urgent humanitarian aid. We will continue to advocate and take action until the persecution ends and a just future is secured. We stand together, united for humanity.
