IBU-CAPS and Center Piramida Organize Panel on Autism Awareness

The International Balkan University’s Psychological Counselling Center, in collaboration with Center Piramida Skopje, successfully organized a panel discussion dedicated to Autism Awareness, focusing on promoting understanding, inclusion, and professional exchange in the field of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The event brought together distinguished experts, practitioners, and students to engage in meaningful discussions on early diagnosis, intervention strategies, and community support for individuals with autism and their families. The panel served as an important platform for knowledge sharing and awareness-raising, aligning with IBU’s ongoing mission to advance mental health literacy and inclusive education in North Macedonia.

Guest Speakers and Topics:
* Prof. Dr. Saleh Shalan (United Arab Emirates) – Managing Challenging Behaviors in the Community
* Prof. Dr. Mariam Khater (United Arab Emirates) – Assessment and Intervention of Communication Skills in Children with Autism
* Prof. Dr. Silvana Markovska Simoska (International Balkan University) – Assessment and Intervention Approaches for Autism Spectrum Disorder in North Macedonia: Current Practices and Clinical Experiences

The speakers shared their extensive experience in clinical and educational practice, emphasizing the importance of an interdisciplinary approach that involves educators, therapists, psychologists, and families in the developmental support of children with ASD. They also discussed current global practices, cultural considerations, and the evolving role of schools and universities in fostering inclusive environments.

A particularly heartfelt moment of the event was the participation of Filip Simonovski, an eleven-year-old self-taught artist diagnosed with autism at the age of three. Filip captivated the audience with his story and artistic talent, presenting his personal art gallery and sharing an inspiring message about creativity, self-expression, and acceptance. His presence served as a touching reminder of the diverse strengths and abilities that individuals on the spectrum bring to society.

Through initiatives such as this, IBU-CAPS continues to demonstrate its dedication to building a more inclusive and understanding society one where every individual has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
