ENG 201 Morphology Weekly hours: 2+1, ECTS: 6
This course is designed to teach conceptual-terminological and methodological foundations for the description of the English language system, rules and regularities of the morphological subsystem of English. It also creates awareness of the interrelatedness of linguistic levels (morphological, syntactic and phonological), ability to analyze and describe morphological units and processes and ability to recognize and analyze ways in which the morphological system manifests itself at the level of languages. Basic linguistic concepts and grammatical English language – terminology. Hierarchy of linguistic units. Sentence, clause, phrase, word, morpheme. Parts of speech (Word classes). Detailed analysis of individual parts of speech (noun, pronoun, adjective attachment proposal) and related grammatical categories. The role of individual parts of speech in forming phrase. Specific English morphological phenomena and processes that are the source of problems students about susceptible to differences in linguistic systems of English.
