The aim of this course is to give an overview of English literature with brief historical and social backgrounds as well as literary overviews of each period studied. A variety of works of prose and verse from the Anglo-Saxon period to the Age of Romantics will be studied with a view of the literary, social and political features of the periods they were written. Introduction to the course, contents, sources and objectives, The Anglo Saxon Period, The Middle Ages, The Renaissance, Civil War and Restoration, The Eighteenth Century.
