This course aims to provide students with an overview of various approaches, methods, and techniques of language teaching and their theoretical foundation so as to serve in course design. The course is also intended to familiarize students with the terminology in the field as well as engage them in teaching projects in which they will be required to evaluate materials and techniques in addition to preparing their own activities. Course contents: A brief history of language teaching; the nature of approaches and methods in language teaching; The Grammar-Translation Method; The Direct Method; The Audio-Lingual Method; The Silent Way; Community Language Learning; Total Physical Response; Communicative Language Teaching; Content-based Instruction; Task-based Language Teaching; The Political Dimensions of Language Teaching and the Participatory Approach; Learning Strategy Training, Cooperative Learning, and Multiple Intelligences; Emerging Uses of Technology in Language Teaching and Learning
