ENG 301 Lexicology

ENG 301 Lexicology Weekly hours: 2+1, ECTS: 6
The purpose of this course is to present the basic concepts in contemporary English Lexicology. It is primarily designed to cover various aspects of English vocabulary, that is, (1) origin of English words, (2) their structure and use, and (3) the art of making dictionaries.  In addition, the course aims to provide students with knowledge as well as necessary practical skills in using different types of dictionaries. Course Contents: defining lexicology; the origin of English words; the notion of word; word formation; meaning relations; words in use; ways of investigating vocabulary; words in dictionaries.
