The purpose of this course is to meet the basic theories and methods for examining the relationships between language and society, to learn about the main findings and research on language use and related educational practice, articulate ways in which sociolinguistics may notify socially responsible practices in education, and to apply the principles of sociolinguistics analysis of language use in and around the educational setting. Course Contents: Comparing the basic theories and methods for examining the relationships between language and society. Assessment of the main research findings on language use and related educational practice; Articulate ways in which sociolinguistics can inform socially responsible practices in education; Apply principles of sociolinguistics for the analysis of language use in and around the educational setting; Demonstrate various aspects of language and their relationship to modern society.
