In this course the results of diversity in linguistics and culture are explored deeply. This course gives students a general overview of sociolinguistics introducing early and current developments in the area. The issues concluding multilingualism and language ecology, verbal repertoire and communicative competence, language socialization and language ideology are subjects to be taught in the course. Course Contents: Language prestige and language ideologies, language contact and multilingualism, language change, dialect and style, Ebonics, creoles and pidgins, dialecticism and critical language aware, language and gender, language acquisition and socialization, speech communities, ethnography of speaking, communicative competence, critical and multimodal literacies in English.
