ELIGIBILITY, SELECTION AND APPLICATION PROCESS
International Balkan University announces internal calls for outgoing students each semester, offering more than 200 destinations for Erasmus+ semester mobility abroad.
Eligibility of Students
Students from all study levels (bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD) can apply for Erasmus+ Student Mobility for Studies, except:
• Students with an incomplete 1st year of bachelor studies.
• Students from the Preparatory English Language School.
Selection/Ranking of IBU Students
The selection process will be carried out by an internal IBU Commission, which evaluates candidates based on specific criteria. Candidates are ranked and selected according to the available quota for mobility approved in the Erasmus+ agreement with the National Agency for European Educational Programmes and Mobility of the Republic of North Macedonia. The following criteria are considered:
• Grade Point Average (GPA)
• Number of failed courses
• Reasons for wanting to study abroad
• Compatibility of the study program with the host institution
• Knowledge of English or the language of instruction at the host institution (evaluated through the EU Academy Online Language Support Tool)
• Previous participation in the Erasmus+ Program for Studies/Traineeships
Application Process
Step 1: Application at IBU
Interested students should apply for an SMS when the Erasmus Office opens the internal call for applications. All applications for this mobility are submitted through the Erasmus+ Module under Applications, available on each student’s Hello Dashboard. Students must include the following information:
• 3 university choices
• A motivation letter explaining why they want to study abroad at these specific universities - tied to the student's professional, academic and personal goals.
Students should only choose universities that have an Erasmus+ Inter-Institutional Agreement with IBU for their study program. For more information on eligible universities, click on the List of Erasmus+ Inter-Institutional Agreements. Universities outside this list will not be accepted.
Step 2: Selection at IBU
When the call is closed, and the selection is made, all students will receive a notification of the decision for their application. Possible results are:
Accepted – if the student is accepted for an SMS, they should follow the steps below.
Rejected – if the student is rejected for an SMS, they are not eligible to participate in the program.
Added on the Reserve List – If the student is added to the Reserve List, they may be contacted to take part in the mobility if an accepted student cancels their mobility.
Step 3: Nomination at the Host University
Accepted students will be nominated at their first-choice university, provided there is an Erasmus+ Inter-Institutional Agreement for that study program between IBU and the host university. If the deadlines and criteria are met, the university accepts the student, and they send an email with details about the application process, required documents, course catalog, visa, and housing information. The student must follow these steps and submit the required documents before the deadline.
Step 4: Documentation at IBU
All students need to provide certain documentation before, during, and after the mobility takes place. The list of all the documents necessary is available under the Resources section on the website.
Step 5: Course Choices
Students must select their courses with their Erasmus+ Course Coordinators. Each coordinator’s contact information is available under the Resources section on the website. When the student has the final course compatibility list (CCL), they can finalize their Learning Agreement (LA) or Online Learning Agreement (OLA) here: https://learning-agreement.eu/
For more information on how to fulfill the OLA, please check the Resources section on the website.
Step 6: Completed Before Mobility Process
Before leaving for their Erasmus+ mobility, students need to upload the required documents to their Hello! Module. This includes all finalized steps and other required documents, which are all listed on Hello!
The first part of the grant will be transferred to the students’ bank accounts before they depart. For more information about the grant amount and how it is paid, please visit the Resources section on the website.
