At International Balkan University, we continue to strengthen our institutional dialogue with key diplomatic representatives and partners in the region. In this context, our Rector Prof. Dr. Lütfi Sunar, together with our Vice Rector Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Lökçe, carried out an official visit to the Ambassador of Albania to Skopje, Denion Meidani. The meeting provided an important opportunity for us to exchange views on current developments in the higher education sector in North Macedonia and to discuss issues of mutual interest related to the evolving academic landscape.

During the meeting, we discussed the proposed Higher Education Law in North Macedonia and the challenges that have emerged in relation to the draft legislation. Our Rector Prof. Dr. Lütfi Sunar shared our university’s perspectives and concerns regarding certain aspects of the proposal, emphasizing that reforms in higher education should carefully consider the functioning of universities and the interests of students. We also highlighted the importance of protecting university autonomy and ensuring that high academic standards remain central to the development of the higher education system, as these principles are essential for sustaining quality education and institutional progress.

Ambassador Denion Meidani listened attentively to the perspectives shared during the meeting and expressed appreciation for the contributions our university makes to the higher education environment, particularly in educating international students and fostering academic cooperation across the region. The meeting concluded with a gesture of goodwill as Ambassador Meidani thanked our Rector for the books presented during the visit, noting that such initiatives reflect a shared commitment to promoting knowledge and strengthening educational quality. At IBU, we remain dedicated to maintaining active dialogue with partners and stakeholders while contributing positively to discussions that shape the future of higher education.
