We continued to contribute to academic dialogue and cultural awareness through the organization of the conference titled “Current Issues of the Balkan Turkish Community,” held within the Department of Turkish Language Teaching at the Faculty of Education of International Balkan University. Bringing together academics, students, and distinguished guests, the conference created an important platform for discussing the contemporary challenges, historical experiences, and cultural dynamics of the Balkan Turkish community. The program began with opening speeches delivered by our Rector, Prof. Dr. Lütfi Sunar, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Ekrem Destanov, emphasizing the importance of preserving cultural identity, strengthening academic engagement, and supporting discussions that contribute to social awareness and intercultural understanding within the Balkans.
The conference presentation was conducted by Prof. Dr. Halit Eren, whose comprehensive evaluations attracted great interest from participants throughout the program. During the conference, various important themes related to the Balkan Turkish community were addressed, including social and cultural developments, educational challenges, identity-related issues, mother tongue education, cultural heritage preservation, and the role of younger generations in sustaining a strong sense of belonging. The discussions also highlighted the historical legacy of the Turkish presence in the Balkans and explored the importance of maintaining cultural continuity and social representation in contemporary society. Through these valuable academic contributions, we further strengthened our commitment to encouraging intellectual exchange and supporting research-based discussions on issues of regional and cultural significance.
The conference reflected our dedication to creating meaningful academic environments where important social and cultural topics can be examined from multidimensional perspectives. The active participation and engagement shown by attendees demonstrated the growing importance of such initiatives within the academic community and beyond. At the conclusion of the program, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Lütfi Sunar, presented a gift and a certificate of appreciation to Prof. Dr. Halit Eren in recognition of his valuable contribution as the speaker of the conference. Through events of this nature, we continue to reinforce our mission of promoting academic excellence, cultural awareness, and meaningful dialogue while contributing to the preservation and understanding of the rich cultural heritage of the Balkans.
